There’s Plenty of Activity on Your Sales Deal. So Why Isn’t It Moving Forward?

You're having meetings. Emails are going back and forth. You've done the demonstration, revised the proposal and followed up. Your contact keeps responding.

There's certainly plenty happening around the Opportunity.

But is the buyer actually getting closer to making a decision?

Activity can create the appearance of progress

A busy Opportunity feels alive, which makes activity easy to mistake for momentum.

Instead of measuring how much happened after your last interaction, look at what actually changed:

Did the buyer make a meaningful commitment?
Did an important stakeholder become involved?
Was an obstacle resolved?
Did uncertainty decrease?
Did the buyer complete an agreed action?
Did the decision itself move closer?

A meeting that changes none of those things may have been useful, but it isn't necessarily evidence that the Opportunity progressed.

Pay attention to what the buyer is doing

Salespeople naturally track their own actions: calls, emails, meetings, demonstrations, proposals and follow-ups. Those activities matter, but the buyer's behavior can tell you much more about the health of the Opportunity.

Are they bringing additional people into the process? Are they providing information you've requested? Are they completing agreed actions, working through implementation questions or clarifying how the decision will be made?

Those are very different signals from simply agreeing to another meeting.

Two useful questions after every important interaction

Try asking:

What do I know now that I didn't know before?
What changed in the Opportunity because of this interaction?

If the answers repeatedly amount to very little, that's useful information. You may have a busy Opportunity that isn't really moving.

Sales Blueprint Architect helps you look at the evidence more critically and get a clearer picture of whether the Opportunity is actually progressing toward a decision.
